About C.F.R.

Amy Makice, founder of Creative Family Resources, is a parent educator and licensed psychotherapist based in Bloomington, Indiana. Her training includes Relational-Cultural Therapy, Advanced training in Playful Parenting, and H. Stephen Glenn’s Developing Capable Young People.

Amy specializes in women’s issues and parenting challenges. She offers individual therapy and parent support for people in the Bloomington area; workshops for parents and caregivers; and internet and phone consultations. Her consultations, presentations, and workshops incorporate current research on children’s development, neuroscience, psychotherapy, play therapy as well as concrete techniques for bringing families together.

Amy has a professional history serving the mental health needs of individuals and families. She has been a licensed clinical social worker since 1997. In graduate school, her research on women in recovery and Relational-Cultural Therapy was awarded a grant by the Newcomb College Center for Research on Women as well as the Lettie Page Whitehead Foundation Scholarship.

Amy has three children. Her volunteer work includes helping individuals with severe mental illness, serving on the board of her community band, and working in her kids’ classrooms. She is currently serving on the board of NET, the Monroe County Chartered Council of Prevent Child Abuse Indiana.

Connie Nelson Laird received her Masters in Social Work from University of Michigan in 1999 where she designed prevention programs aimed at reducing child abuse and neglect. She’s worked with youth and families in both professional and volunteer work including individual and group counseling for children and youth in crisis, 6 years leading Girl Scouts, group classes and counseling for parents and teaching at a child development center.

She is currently working through Creative Family Resources co-creating and leading groups and workshops for parents. She has presented workshops on playful parenting, positive discipline, preventing power struggles, and connecting with your children. She is most excited about implementing an outreach program for moms at the local birthing center focusing on creative expression and connection.
